Time to let Walcott go?

Theo Walcott has occasionally displayed moments of pure brilliance, with his performance against Chelsea last season a prime example of that, but he has on too many occasions failed miserably to live up to his billing as a truly exciting and gifted player, instead playing with such a lack of consistency that the cries of "Theooo" in the Emirates  stands have all but faded away to be replaced by shouts of anguish and anger.

It's no secret that Arsenal (no longer even vague favourites on the betting line to win the league) have gone from bad to worse this season, and one of the reasons behind this decline is surely the club's inability to be ruthless in getting rid of the dead wood inherent in the squad, with that dead wood coming mainly in the form of Senderos, Arsharvin, and now Walcott. In Walcott's case, it is in one context a little strange that no interest is being paid to the fact that his contract is rapidly running down and could soon expire if he wishes to move elsewhere, but presumably this can be explained away by the fact that he is considered such a waste of talent that he is not worthy of a transfer story or two.

With Wenger in desperate need of a PR stunt to win over the Arsenal fans (who are starting to dread watching the live scores results flood through on Saturday afternoons) once again, the sale of Walcott, the promotion of Mr Oxlade-Chamberlain, and the arrival of a few new players would be just the tonic to make this happen. That said, the fact of the matter is that one of Wenger’s biggest failures in recent years has been knowing when to let go of players everyone else knows need to go. This is his time to show that he can make the right choice.
